First test of F1’s new era provides answers and poses questions

Formula 1’s new era is here. Testing for the all-new 2022 designs began with three days at Barcelona last week and, as happens so often, there were as many questions thrown up as conclusions to be drawn. Alex Kalinauckas reports in depth from the test on p20. As you’d expect, Mercedes and Red Bull are right there, but Ferrari and McLaren are looking encouraging too. Is this a false dawn before the natural order of recent seasons reasserts itself, or are we going to enjoy a fantastic four-team tussle at the top in 2022? No doubt the running in Bahrain next week will provide more answers – and more questions.
