Williams Advanced Engineering (WAE) has expanded its network of strategic technical partners with the announcement that it will collaborate with Lotus on ‘advanced propulsion technologies’.
The move unites two storied names from the history of motorsport, with Williams Grand Prix Engineering and Team Lotus winning a combined 193 grands prix and 29 Formula 1 World Championship titles between 1963-1997.
Lotus, which celebrated its 70th anniversary last year, has long been at the forefront of lightweight technology and advanced materials, while WAE, the special projects offshoot of the Grove-based F1 team, has forged its own niche in developing pioneering technologies across a range of industry sectors, including automotive, aviation, defence and medical. It was recently awarded the contract to supply the Electric World Rallycross Championship with batteries from 2020 until 2023.
