Seeing Marcus Gronholm come out of retirement on Rally Sweden last month to go up against old foe Sebastien Loeb, it was easy to imagine we were reliving 2007 all over again. But the nostalgia factor lasted only so long before reality hit home. And hit hard. Driving the Toyota Yaris WRC that Ott Tanak used to devastating effect to win by 53.7 seconds, five-time Sweden winner Gronholm struggled to get to grips with the latest-specification World Rally Cars, such that his tried and tested pacenotes – delivered as ever by Timo Rautiainen – were rendered virtually useless.
