Clio ace McCarthy targets rookie crown in Carrera Cup switch

PORSCHE CARRERA CUP Renault UK Clio Cup race winner Jack McCarthy will switch to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB this year with the multiple title-winning Redline Racing team. The 18-year-old moved into Clios straight from an impressive karting career and immediately turned heads, qualifying second for his second race at Brands Hatch in 2017. He went on to take his first victory at Rockingham last year and finished seventh in the standings. But McCarthy wants to head down the sportscar route and believes a two-year programme in the Carrera Cup is his best option. “I want to go into GT racing rather than doing the touring car side,” he said. “Redline have won a lot of Porsche championships so I thought they would give me the best opportunity to do well. “I’ve done four or…
