Hypercar rules tweaked

WEC Hypercars – that’s the real thing – will be allowed to race against the lookalikes called for by the hypercar concept prototype regulations published last December when the new category comes on stream for the 2020-21 World Endurance Championship. Exactly how that will happen hasn’t been divulged. The move was confirmed by last week’s FIA World Motor Sport Council with an at-best perfunctory paragraph in the WMSC bulletin. It stated that there would be an “expansion of the 2020 LMP technical regulations concept to allow a ‘hypercar’ developed from the road cars sold by the manufacturers to enter, while preserving the previously-approved regulatory format”.
