I have a theory of how the DAS system could work and it is actually quite simple, but risky and perhaps not legal. Let me start by adding what I found was the perfect definition of steering: “The function of a steering system is to convert the rotary movement of the steering wheel in the driver’s hands, into the angular turn of the front wheels.” The moveable steering wheel could be a ruse and is only done because they want to convince people that the system is part of the steering. The same effect could be achieved just by having a switch that activates a Moog block attached to the steering rack and have the trackrods activated in the way they have done now.
