Venían de México con muy buenas sensaciones, pero en Ciudad de México todo puede suceder. Ferrari ganó con Leclerc en Austin y querían refrendarlo en la capital azteca con otro buen resultado. Sobre todo Sainz que se quedó con la miel en los labios en el G.P. de EE.UU. cuando por potencial vio que podría haber ganado la carrera, como así hizo su compañero de equipo. Pero todo se decidió en aquel momento en la salida, donde el monegasco encontró el hueco adecuado y, tras ponerse líder, ya nadie le arrebató el triunfo.
