Before we get to the Morgan, let’s deal with my guilt surrounding it. Up until the day before we returned our long-serving Plus 8 to Pickersleigh Road, I’d never driven it. Never so much as sat in it. I’d driven an example of the car as part of our road test of course, but only on track at MIRA — hardly a natural setting for the second most famous product to come out of Malvern after mineral water. Possibly it was the dim memory of its flummoxed performance that day which prevented me from ever reaching for the keys — or a disinclination to mess around with the hood or spend a weekend in the company of its notorious creakiness.
