I can understand why you made the Ariel Atom your handling benchmark (‘How Much Fun For £30k?’, 9 July). However, there’s no escaping from the fact it’s a third car, a fair-weather plaything like a Caterham or Morgan 3 Wheeler. A Lotus Elise, however, could conceivably be used as a second car. Unlike the Atom, the Elise is fitted with a windscreen, roof, heater, radio, ABS, traction and stability control, airbags, side impact protection, crumple zones — and all for less than £30k. Sure, it’s not as exciting as an Atom, but which would you rather drive every day or any day? I know which one I’d choose. Mike Spencer Via email…
