New 2.0 turbo petrol engine in detail

THE NEW 2.0-LITRE, twin-scroll turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine is of Lexus’s own in-house design and packed with advanced tech. The direct-injection, Euro 6-compliant unit weighs 160kg and gets Dual VVT-iW technology, which allows it to start in the Otto cycle but run in the more fuel-efficient Atkinson cycle. A balancer shaft improves smoothness and knocking is said to be reduced by a calcium-free lubrication oil. Adopting a water-cooled intercooler instead of an air-cooled one is said to provide a 0.3sec shortening of the 0-62mph time.
