But until it arrives, what is currently the hottest member of the 3 Series range slots into a gap in the market that seems somewhat sparsely populated. This is the M340i xDrive, and it’s a halfway house between the M3 and the rest of the 3 Series range. It’s the only model in the current line-up with a six-cylinder petrol motor, and BMW’s engineers have applied parts and development from the company’s esteemed performance division, too.
