Was there a more compelling position group last season than the 49ers’ quarterback room? Heading into the season, the torch had been passed from veteran Jimmy Garoppolo to highly touted No. 3 draft pick Trey Lance, as the 49ers opted for the latter’s higher ceiling over the former’s higher floor. Lance suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 2, which forced Garoppolo back into the starting job. His comeback was short-lived, though, as he would suffer a season-ending injury of his own near the halfway point of the regular season.
