ALLA TIDERS BESTICK

Sedan urminnes tider har människan använt sig av ätverktyg. Tidigt kom regler för hur besticken skulle hanteras och knivar, gafflar och skedar visade på ägarens status och förfining. Erik Bilén guidar oss genom bestickens historia och olika uttryck.

Kontinentala seder kopplade till det dukade bordet kom till Norden under renässansen. Den som då hängde med i senaste modet fick lära sig att ett tjusigt bordsskick var att äta med tre fingrar på höger hand. Kniven hade förvisso redan då funnits sedan urminnes tider, men användes bara till att skära en bit från köttet eller fisken som var framdukat på serveringsfat. Skeden då? Jo, den har också har en lång historia, från det gamla Egypten, och användes till soppa. Och dryck. Vid den här tiden, alltså under 1400- och 1500-talen, åt man med händerna men tog med sig kniven och skeden till kalas. De förvarades i fina etuier, något som berättar om hur exklusiva de var.
