Everything you need to be able to pray like an historical Anglo-Saxon. Authentic ancient Christian prayers in Old English drawn from a number of Anglo-Saxon period manuscripts, organized into traditional prayer structures that were known in Anglo-Saxon England. The Old English text is included in large print along with an interlinear Modern English translation. A number of the Old English texts included have not previously been translated into Modern English. Prayers of the Hours (a simplified Old English breviary) are given for the hours of Prime, Second, Terce, Sext, None, Vespers, Twelfth/Compline, Matins/Nocturn and Lauds. 42 psalms in Old English (including all of psalm 118) are given in full according to the Hours they were most commonly prayed in Anglo-Saxon England. The psalms include caesura and flex markings so they can be sung with Gregorian or Sarum plainchant psalm tones. 28 hymns and canticles in Old English are included. Five different morning prayer programs from Anglo-Saxon England are given in Old English. The Office of the Cross from the Portiforium of Saint Wulfstan, confessions, short prayers written by historical Anglo-Saxons, protection prayers and prayers for prayer ropes and beads are given along with detailed explanations and notes for all the prayers and texts included. Different options for traditional psalmodies, and the seasons and hours of the surviving body of Old English hymns are included in the appendices for those who wish to vary the Old English prayers of the Hours through the year using Old English texts from other books.
