THE SPECIAL FORCES SERE COURSE WAS STARTED BY THE LEGENDARY GREEN BERET COLONEL JAMES NICHOLAS “NICK”ROWE,A UNITED STATES ARMY SPECIAL FORCES OFFICER AND ONE OF ONLY 34 AMERICAN PRISONERS OF WAR TO ESCAPE CAPTIVITY DURING THE VIETNAM WAR. SERE training was initially started by the U.S. Air Force shortly after the end of World War II. The original course was based on the experiences of veteran British and American World War II pilots who succeeded in escaping from, and evading, the Germans and returned to friendly territory during the war.
