I’ve been traveling abroad for many years. I learned early on that it doesn’t take much for a foreigner to raise suspicion among local police or military officials and find themselves subject to a full shakedown. Equally, it’s easy to find oneself in a “bad spot” with the locals after taking a wrong turn. SITUATIONAL AWARENESS In a perfect world, you could pinpoint when and where you’ll be a target of a violent crime so you could avoid the threat altogether. Because we don’t have that luxury, employing situational awareness all the time will go a long way toward keeping you out of a lot of trouble.
