8 FEBRUARY— 30 APRIL 1943 8 FEBUARY 1943 US forces complete the capture of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. 19 FEBRUARY 1943 Battle of the Kasserine Pass begins in Tunisia in a German attempt to split the Allied front. 1 MARCH 1943 Atlantic Convoy Conference in Washington leads to a British, American and Canadian agreement to share responsibility for convoy protection. 2 MARCH 1943 Battle of the Bismarck Sea results in heavy losses for a Japanese convoy bound for New Guinea. 19 APRIL 1943 Start of the Warsaw ghetto uprising in which 13,000 Jews were killed and the rest shipped to the gas chambers. When combat came to an end in Burma (Myanmar) in 1942, a stalemate followed. The Japanese were too overstretched to attempt to penetrate any further, but…
