28–30 SEPTEMBER 1938 13 MARCH 1938 Austria united with Germany in a Greater German Reich. 20–21 MAY 1938 “Weekend Crisis” sees Czech mobilization against a possible German strike. 28 MAY 1938 Hitler orders armed forces to prepare “Case Green” for invasion of Czechoslovakia. 11 JULY 1938 Japanese and Soviet forces spark frontier clash at Changkufeng, on the Manchurian border. 28 AUGUST 1938 Runciman Mission draws up plans for Sudeten autonomy. 9 NOVEMBER 1938 German pogrom against the Jews on the “Night of Broken Glass”. After Hitler had taken over his Austrian homeland in March 1938, he began to make preparations to seize Czechoslovakia on the pretence that he was helping fellow Germans oppressed by Czech rule in the Sudeten areas of northern Czechoslovakia.
