4X4 AUSTRALIA LOOKS BACK AT THE CHANGES IN THE INDUSTRY, THE RISE IN OUTBACK TOURING, THE EVOLUTIONARY SOPHISTICATION OF 4X4S, AND MORE

30 YEARS AGO – FEBRUARY 1995 Turbocharged Nissan GQ Patrols and Toyota 80 Series LandCruisers took up the majority of the vehicle-based yarns in this issue. The turbo Patrol had just been released and we racked up 2000km in a road test. The 80 Series Cruisers were all dressed up in finery from ARB, TJM, Opposite Lock and The Ultimate Suspension, which were the leading 4x4 accessory players 30 years ago. There were plenty of other vehicle-based tests and reviews including our then long-term Holden Rodeo, fitting an auto transmission to a Troopy, and testing a HiLux with the then new-to-the-public Kinetic Suspension.
