FIVE hundred issues! What an incredible milestone that few other magazines, especially four-wheel drive, and even more general outdoor magazines, have been able to achieve or emulate. I’ve been lucky enough, privileged even, to have been involved with 4X4 Australia from around issue 40. The second time I wrote for 4X4 Australia, as a freelancer with no fixed address, was when the magazine supplied me with a new Nissan Patrol (an MQ wagon) and told me to go out and test it. I thought, ‘Yes! Now where do I want to go?’ and promptly headed off on a four-week trip up the Canning Stock Route.
