4X4 AUSTRALIA LOOKS BACK AT THE CHANGES IN THE INDUSTRY, THE RISE IN OUTBACK TOURING, THE EVOLUTIONARY SOPHISTICATION OF 4X4S, AND MORE

30 YEARS AGO – DECEMBER 1994 While we were comparing the finer points of the latest Discovery, Pajero and Jeep in this issue, we were also previewing the contenders for our annual 4X4 Industry Awards. On top of that we were driving a hot Cruiser from Luxon’s 4WD as well as reviewing our long-term test vehicle, a Land Rover Discovery that we had fitted a larger fuel tank and a rear bar to, the latter costing just $900! We had also just returned from our Footsteps expedition following the route of Lawrence Wells and part of the Canning Stock Route. We hadn’t got off to a great start with trouble happening while we were further south on the Connie Sue Highway and then having to stop again at Carnegie Station…
