When it comes to property, Ingrid Huys loves character. ‘I adore historical houses – buildings with a story and original features,’ she says. ‘My favourite thing is to buy secondhand – to find beauty in an item that someone else has thrown away.’
Her skills are well honed after years of living in period properties. But nowhere really felt like home until a decade ago, when Ingrid discovered that the former mayor’s residence in the village where she was born was for sale.
