The desire to live close to family and be able to commute to the capital lured architects Rebecca Haines-Gadd and her husband Tom Greaves to a house in a small Oxfordshire town. ‘We are near shops and pubs, but on the edge of the countryside, too,’ says Rebecca. ‘A direct train to work is also convenient as we are based in London, but local projects with Soho House Design mean I spend part of my week in the area.’ When Rebecca and Tom viewed the Victorian property, it had been on the market for a year. ‘The house is in a conservation area and was in need of considerable updating,’ says Rebecca. ‘It hadn’t been lived in for four years and no one had shown any interest in buying it.
