Every day, Patricia Newman passed a dilapidated property en route to and from her house in Provence. ‘I saw the barn, but never as a potential home,’ she says. ‘It was very primitive and the roof was falling in. It looked so sad and forlorn, like a sleeping beauty that needed to be woken.’
A botanical artist who first came to this area of France in 2005, Patricia settled in a farmhouse on the outskirts of Cotignac, a village with an international population and a lively cultural life.
