The 1983 University of Texas Longhorn Baseball Team had one of the best collegiate pitching staffs of all time returning from the previous year's team - but only 2 position players returning. Coach Cliff Gustafson had to put together a team from a disparate group of veterans, junior college transfers, and freshmen that could hopefully compete with the other good teams in the Southwest Conference, and then try and beat the best from the rest of the country.
After struggling early in the season, the Texas team finally found its focus and will to win as conference play started. But the team was not perfect, and they had to fight their way back through the loser's bracket in their Regional. Winning it all in Omaha was the goal - and this is the story of how the '83 team captured that year's College World Series championship.
