Unlike the Lapidary magazine I got that turned out to be more of a jewelry design magazine with very little information on rocks, minerals or gems. This magazine is filled with articles and pictures of awesome rocks and minerals. So I have a better idea of what things may look like on the outside and on the inside and the difference is huge! I am a beginner at 64 yrs old and because of the pandemic no clubs or mentors are around so I am left to get educated on my own thru books, magazines and videos. I was really disappointed with the lapidary magazine because it had no before pictures of where the rocks or minerals were found and then when it was made into jewelry or no how to's on how to go about finding or cutting or shaping the stones. But this magazine does and it has suppliers that cater to those needs. I am really enjoying it and I hope they put more articles in it for beginners as I am sure there is going to be a bunch of us newbies that jumped in during the pandemic and this is a great way to get outdoors and keep your distance and have fun with the family. And getting out and doing science is so much more exciting than sitting in front of a computer doing a zoom class or staring at a teacher in the front of a classroom!
Love to learn anything on rocks where people find what, and love the pictures
This magazine is for the gem club that writes it. I appreciate the pictures, which I believe are made for each of the members to pat each other on the back. High dollar hobbie for high dollar patronage.
I have enjoyed Rocks and Gems for three years now. Every month the articles are interesting and inspiring. Most of the listings of mineral shows of course got cancelled this year because of COVID, but just browsing them and remembering my own rock hounding experiences with my young children keeps me holding on for the better days ahead!
Great Magazine for learning, doing, and staying connected!
I love this magazine! I discovered it recently and immediately subscribed. The articles are interesting, full of facts and educational. The large and colorful photos really highlight the gemstones!
I have a rock-obsessed child who loves getting this magazine. Quality of the magazine and writing aren't great but it is making my kid happy and that was the goal!
This is a great magazine to keep out and look at and read! Knowledge of the subject is not necessary and offers a great escape with some good pictures too!
Should have been getting this for year NOT lapidary journal which is now all beads and jewelry
Excellent magazine
I have read this magazine for interest and reference. I gift it to a friend who loves it as well!
