HOW TO CAST ENGINE RUBBERS
Of all the parts that are harder to find for our bikes, anything moulded from rubber is proving the most elusive. Mark Graham’s KH/H1F project (see page 99) threw up a particular case in point. The anti-vibration engine rubbers for the H1 motor have long since fallen off the Kawasaki parts fiches and are only occasionally available as an aftermarket offering. That left us with a couple of options; mount the engine solidly – not a great idea – or set about making some of our own. Flexible polyurethane casting rubber is easily available to the DIYer as is the silicone rubber required to make moulds. We used an A80 designated PU as this offers reasonable stiffness for engine rubbers; certainly stiffer than the originals were. All that is needed…
