Chris Whitworth’s Yamada may not be the best-looking special ever to appear in PS – but it’s certainly the most ingenious – and one of the cheapest too. The man really does know what he’s doing. Using ERW (electrical resistance welded) tube instead of expensive CDS (cold drawn seamless) is the sensible way to go with a simple trellis, and his front-mounted oil tank idea is so simple and so effective – a temperature drop of 10-degrees is significant – without an oil cooler! So, it took 2000 hours to build, he says: by my maths that’s only 83 days, or just under three months, way less than most of us take to restore a bike, never mind virtually build one from scratch.
