GARDUÑO ARQUITECTOS was approached by the clients to search for a specific site that could accommodate an exciting project: Casa VG. The location was inside a gated community in San Luis Potosí, México. Architect Juan Garduño: “When talking with our clients about the objectives, we realised that the land they had was insufficient to develop the project we were planning. Beforehand we asked the clients to fill out a detailed questionnaire in order to understand their needs. We wanted the project to have very constricted areas and few green areas, so first of all we suggested the client look for a big lot, which we did together with them.” They found two lots, both facing south, with a lovely view and a natural stream of water running towards them. FROM the moment you enter the Conrad hotel you are impressed by its trove of artwork. Before you even discover the hotel’s 2000 artworks on display, you are encapsulated by the Loopy Doopy dramatic blue and purple Sol LeWitt painting, that rises 13 stories high - The late artist’s largest and most revered work. The piece, which took 380 litres of paint and 3000 hours to complete, is simply breath-taking in the sunlit 15-story atrium entrance. Originally constructed as part of the Grand Central Terminal expansion, The Barclay (as it has become affectionately known) became one of four notable railroad hotels that was built to service the well-heeled men and women travelling to New York City. SITUATED on a sixteen-and-a-half-hectare property nestled between the hills of Napa and Sonoma Counties in the US, the house was originally constructed in 1889 by a prominent physician from San Francisco as a family retreat and farm. Following his death, his wife and daughters continued to maintain the property raising poultry and planting numerous fruit trees. Named “La Perlita del Monte” (the little pearl of the mountain) by the family, this site has a long agrarian history that continues today as part of the renowned Diamond Mountain District AVA. Originally designed to respond to the local climate, the house features wraparound porches, deep overhangs, an elevated floor level to catch the breeze, and tall ceilings. It serves as both a calm and airy space to come home to after a hectic day: a versatile private space to entertain friends and guests in the great room or on the private rooftop. The great room now spans across forty percent of the overall space and offers a seamless open living concept between the living and dining area as well as the kitchen. MARBLE BATHROOM FLOORS, multiple swimming pools, a casino and more restaurants than you could possibly get through in one stay, The Cosmopolitan has all the Vegas charm but it’s just a little fancier. The property fills a gap on The Strip that those with limitless funds and good taste would say was much needed. And the cheeky slogan, ‘Just the right amount of wrong’, has worked at capturing the cooler and more sophisticated crowd. The property was originally planned to be a condominium development until it was snapped up and converted into a full-scale luxury resort. Much of the original planning can still be seen throughout the property, for instance, most of the 3028 rooms come with a mini-fridge and private balcony – a true rarity amongst Las Vegas hotels.…
