An engine with bite
Under the bonnet, Scott’s Defender looks bog-stock – but it isn’t. Don’t be fooled by those standard hoses – the turbocharger has been changed for one from a 140bhp Ford Transit that shares its 2.4-litre lump with the Land Rover. This combines with a free-flowing air filter and uprated intercooler to supply copious amounts of cool air. There hasn’t been a huge power increase, but it is noticeable – more than enough to overcome the heavy, less aerodynamic extras, such as the roof tent. Indeed, Scott says the engine work is ‘one of the best bits of the build’ thanks to the difference in performance and the change in sound. I can also report that the 110 bounds along more than adequately, thank you very much.…
