Scott’s modifications are not about making his Defender fit for Sunday afternoons at pay-and-play sites. They’re to help him get to off-the-beaten-track places that aren’t easily accessible – without damaging the precious 110. Rock sliders give the door bottoms a sporting chance, while tree sliders and chequerplate do the same for the lower sections of the rear wings and the sides of the tub. At least now if Scott has that horrible moment when he slips helplessly sideways, the 110 should come out of it relatively unscathed. At the front end, the heavy-duty front bumper and steering guard protect parts like the radiator and undercarriage against unforeseen obstacles, while bush cables guide branches up and over the top of the windscreen.
