On November 25, Dijon will release her sophomore album, Black Girl Magic, which features collaborations with Channel Tres, Eve, and Luke Solomon. “It’s really about love and self-acceptance,” says Dijon, a fixture in the clubs of Berlin, where she’s based, who has helped soundtrack runway shows for Louis Vuitton and Dior. “There’s nothing else like farming,” says Ellie Youngblood, who serves as the vegetable production manager at Sky High Farm, a Hudson Valley, New York, nonprofit founded by artist Dan Colen. “You are so challenged and humbled.” Five days a week, Youngblood and her team work a one-acre vegetable plot, growing everything from kale and collards to squash and tomatoes. One hundred percent of the farm’s yield is given to pantries, food banks, and other community programs throughout the state. COUTURE IS A NOTORIOUSLY labor-intensive process, a luxurious measure of beads, pearls, yards of fabric, and stitches that adds up to incalculable beauty. But where does one even begin when the goal is (dauntingly!) perfection? For Daniel Roseberry, the 37-year-old artistic director of Schiaparelli since 2019, it’s a gut feeling. With the Fall 2022 collection, he wanted to emphasize tailoring as “a classic idea that grounds all the surrealism” of the boundary-rattling house founded by Elsa Schiaparelli nearly a century ago. Roseberry’s gauntlet-thrower of an opening look: a severe black skirt suit and boater with a champagne corset, kissed on the hips by two velvet bows. WHEN THE RESTAURANT NOMA, a portmanteau of the Danish words nordisk (Nordic) and mad (food), opened in a former warehouse along the canals of Copenhagen’s Christianshavn neighborhood in 2003, “fine dining” meant white tablecloths and caviar. Then-25-year-old chef René Redzepi completely upended the concept. His belief that truly one-of-a-kind culinary experiences could be achieved in an unpretentious setting using natural, locally sourced ingredients set a new course for the farm-to-table movement. AS MUCH AS HE WAS A PHOTOGRAPHER, Jacques Henri Lartigue was a student of people. His body of work spanned decades, from the candid black-and-white pictures of the French Belle Époque he took as a child to the colorful images he created in the 1960s and 1970s, which brimmed with a kind of joyful representation of life. Lartigue, who was born outside Paris in 1894, always took photographs and made paintings, but it wasn’t until 1963, at the age of 69, that he was fully embraced by the art world.
