About Cigar Aficionado
Cigar Aficionado magazine is at the forefront of all matters related to the best in the cigar world. The publication features their curated list of top cigars from around the globe and cover images of celebrities who sit and relax with the interviewer over a cigar. Despite its name, the magazine covers a variety of interests such as wine, spirits, travel, gambling, and antiques. If you are looking to find your way to becoming an aficionado of life and its simple pleasures, reading the Cigar Aficionado magazine is your start.
History of Cigar Aficionado
First published in September 1992, the magazine was published by Martin R. Shanken, who was also a longtime publisher for Wine Spectator. Martin, in true aficionado fashion, conducted and collected extensive research. Martin received more than 1,300 four-page surveys of cigar smokers detailing their occupation, net worth, income, travel tendencies, and their drinking and smoking habits. It was later revealed survey respondents professed an average household income of $194,000 and a net worth of $1.54 million and claimed to smoke, on average, ten cigars per week. With this information, Shanken created the Cigar Aficionado magazine. With changing times, the magazine shifted its tone from catering to higher-level income brackets by featuring interviews with celebrities, sports stars, and other all-inclusive means. In February 1994, the magazine also managed to interview Cuban leader Fidel Castro, showing off its journalistic integrity.
Content
Cigar Aficionado does not limit itself to talking just about cigars. Instead, the magazine makes excellent strides to encompass the interests of cigar smokers abroad. With the everyday renaissance man in mind, the magazine details all of the best content surrounding wine, spirits, travel, gambling, and antiquity for their readers. Within every page, readers will find themselves encapsulated in the best food and drink to go with their Cuban cigars. Another great featurette offered is the magazine’s annual picking of the top 25 cigars with detailed editorials explaining what makes each one greater than the next.
