On the frog-eyed face of it, 2003’s C3 Pluriel was an absolute bargain. It was, according to Citroen, no fewer than five cars in one: a hatchback, a ‘sunroof saloon’, a cabrio, a spider, and a roadster pickup. Koenigsegg’s new car looks just like its oldest. Welcome to the CC850, a 1,363bhp hypercar with a manual box, clothed in the timeless design of the firm’s first production car, the CC8S. It looks just as fresh today as in 2002. The CC850 also celebrates boss Christian von Koenigsegg’s 50th – just 50 will be built and he’ll get the first. And they’ve sold out. It’s clothed around the Jesko’s carbonfibre monocoque with double wishbones front and back and adjustable dampers all round. It also gets the Jesko’s twin-turbo 5.0-litre V8, which sounds incredible, and on regular fuel will pump out 1,169bhp. You’ll need E85 for the full 1,300+bhp and 1,020lb ft of torque. Amazingly, that power is harnessed through a simulated six-speed manual, with three pedals to play with.…

GRASS ROOTS I first learned a J-turn, or as I know it a ‘reverse flick’, when I began grass autotesting when I was 14. Although it looks spectacular, it’s probably one of the easiest tricks. It needs two main components – speed and commitment. You reverse in a straight line, flick the car, rotate 180°, and keep moving without losing speed. Like any trick requiring a slide, I’d suggest practising in a grass field, where it’s easiest to get the grip to break away and there’s loads of room. BMW recently lit up the internet with an announcement about heated seats. Huh? Hard to see why people got so hot under the collar about getting hot under the pants. Anyhow. Heated seats and steering wheel, auto-dip lights and some driver-assist features were made available on a monthly fee. TOYOTA AYGO X £19,425 TOYOTA’S AYGO, FLANKED BY ITS BADGE-engineered chums from Peugeot and Citroen, launched way back in 2006. A whole generation learned to drive in them. But as legislation demands more electrified powertrains and safety equipment, teeny non-electric cars just aren’t viable. Funny how a hybrid BMW X7 is deemed greener than a sub-tonne 60mpg runabout, eh? Anyway, Peugeot and Citroen have left the building, so Toyota’s going it alone, trying to reinvent the Aygo as a crossover SUV.
