WHAT DOMESTIC HELPERS NEED TO DO WHEN THEY QUALIFY FOR A CLAIM

Claims must be made within six months of the termination of employment, but when they lose their job an employee can claim straight away. They need to have the following documents when they go to the department of labour to claim UIF (all the documents are available from the department’s website, labour.gov.co.za): • 13-number barcode ID book or passport• Form UI-2.8 for bank details• Form UI-19 to prove you’re no longer working for your employer.• A letter from your former employer stating they’re no longer your employer.• Proof of registration as an unemployed person.…
