Three women share their tales of how they were helped and healed by therapy pets

Real life ‘Chloe has made a difference in all of our lives’ Nicky Yates, 50, runs woodhaven.space, an eco-home venue, and lives in Woking with her husband Jeremy, 53, and their children Sam, 19 and Millie, 17. My playful dog Chloe jumps gently into my mum Thelma’s lap. Almost instantly, Mum’s face lights up. ‘What a good girl,’ she says. Since Mum, now 80, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2021, she has become more stressed and often loses her words. But Chloe’s presence always helps her to relax. We welcomed Chloe into our family as a puppy in the summer of 2014 – she’s a spaniel-poodle cross and is gorgeous.
