Robin Wager recalls how a Beetle once took on Antarctica

“it proved easier, more economical and faster than any of the other forms of transport” Some years ago, as editor of VW Motoring, I was asked to take part in a BBC radio programme entitled Beetlemania. Original, eh? But as you’ve probably guessed already, it was about the car, not the Fab Four. The producer asked me about any unusual tasks that Beetles had proved capable of, and I immediately came up with something I recalled appearing in the magazine some years earlier.
