“Dr. Porsche travelled to America and met Henry Ford, and witnessed first hand the phenomenon of the assembly line” The idea for the Beetle was copied from a similar concept dreamed up by Henry Ford – an affordable, reliable car that would motorise the masses. While the idea itself may not have been new, the brilliance of Ford was to introduce the production line, where hundreds of identical cars could be built at the same time. Previously, all cars were hand built in small batches.
