Good to see a timely reminder of the dangers of Lyme disease in Trail magazine [page 65, June issue]. You might also want to point out for the sake of readers planning trips abroad that tick-borne encephalitis is also common in many areas of central and eastern Europe, especially the Alps, and is on the rise. While not as common as Lyme disease it’s a virus and therefore inoculation is the only way to be 100 per cent safe. Oh, and ticks aren’t insects.
