WE SAY... This was my top ridge south of Scotland before I even saw it in the flesh. Freakishly east-west-straight, it climbs from Haweswater's shore so relentlessly it’s hard not to spot it on the map. It says a lot that its nomenclature is ambigous: with a clutch of names – including the fitting Straits of Riggindale – this sucker's nearly 3km in length, too. Compare that to Striding Edge (about 1.5km) and Sharp Edge (about 200m), and this starts to take on the deep-breath proportions of Scotland. In a relatively comely Lakeland context it looks gargantuan. Steady, unthreatening underfoot and sensational when viewed side-on, it links beautifully with Kidsty Pike's east ridge into a horseshoe.
