The sign of Pooley Bridge Inn shows the old stone bridge, lost to Storm Desmond in December. Just after the church fork right at a mini-roundabout, to a crossroads at the top edge of the village. Keep ahead, up Roehead Lane, passing the entrance to Hillcroft campsite, all the way to the lane top. 2 NY478235 Keep ahead through a gate onto a stony bridleway track rising south, then south-east. After 1km, as the slope eases, fork right (south) on a fainter, muddier track to a low stone circle, the Cockpit. Bear right on a wide, well-used path.
