We had enjoyed the north ridge of Tryfan and I was worried about being committed to a ridge route if lightning struck. Lightning follows the shortest route down to earth, and therefore the high summits of mountains and ridges are bad places to be in a thunderstorm. People are unfortunately killed every year by lightning strikes in the hills, and it pays to give it respect. If I see lightning in the weather forecast I will plan a day that allows escape routes;…
