The red Lamborghini growled down the mountain road like a cougar about to kill something – or whose whiskers you’d said looked stupid, which probably amounts to the same thing. A sound right from the belly of the engine. The sports car swung past, flat to the ground, followed swiftly by another. Both prowled over the mountain road, and vanished between the hills. They weren’t the first such cars we’d seen. We weren’t in Monaco. We were in Britain and, right then, at the foot of a scruffy hill wearing a wig of pale cloud and bestowed with an Icelandic name. The road curled away, the tarmac smooth as ice cream and the engines purred into silence. We turned to our hill, the highest on the Isle of Man, and started…
