California to ban sale of gasoline-fueled cars

On August 25, the state of California announced that it will ban the sale of new gasoline-powered cars by 2035. The move is intended to help slow down climate change and is expected to lead to major changes in the auto industry. What happened? The California Air Resources Board announced a rule requiring that all new passenger vehicles sold in the state be free of emissions from greenhouse gases (gases that remain in Earth’s atmosphere and trap heat, causing the planet to warm) by 2035. The regulation will take effect gradually. By 2026, 35% of all new cars must release zero emissions, and by 2030 that number must reach 68%.
