Mississippi city faces water crisis

Jackson, the capital of the state of Mississippi, is dealing with a water crisis that has affected more than 150,000 people. The city’s neglected water system became overwhelmed, leaving residents without access to safe water. What happened? On August 29, heavy rains flooded the city’s water treatment plant. This caused little or no water to be available to homes, businesses, hospitals, and schools. There was not enough water flow to flush toilets. As a result, schools had to switch to online learning for a week and hospitals were forced to bring in portable restrooms. Any tap water people wanted to drink had to be boiled first.
