State funeral for former President

On January 9, world leaders joined the family and friends of former President Jimmy Carter for his funeral at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, DC. The service ended a week of tributes to the longest-living former President in US history, who died on December 29 at age 100. How was Carter honored? Services for Carter, who was President from 1977 to 1981, began on January 4 in his hometown of Plains, Georgia. A bell at his childhood farm was rung 39 times to honor the 39th President. The service then moved to the Carter Presidential Center in Atlanta before continuing at the US Capitol building in Washington.
