Congratulations to this year’s winners of the American Library Association awards for excellence in children’s literature (p4). What a talented group of authors and illustrators! Each year when the selections are announced, our executive editor, Mindy, who oversees our books coverage, listens excitedly to find out who won so she can quickly get the news into our pages. This year, we were thrilled when Erin Entrada Kelly’s latest book, The First State of Being, was awarded the Newbery Medal.
