Leading her state

On January 16, Rosie Lanenga, a fifth grader from Portland, Oregon, was sworn in as the state’s newest Kid Governor. She was elected by her peers statewide. Lanenga’s campaign focused on environmental issues, including the effects of temperature change on water supplies and the increase in wildfires. During her one-year term, she aims to raise awareness of climate change with a three-part plan: encouraging eco-conscious actions at home, like composting; hosting school meetings; and empowering students to spread knowledge.…
