Taking home gold

On January 12, Jaelyn Liu, age 15, became the youngest US women’s foil fencer to win a gold medal at a senior World Cup. Liu is a foilist, a fencer who competes with a foil (a light fencing sword) to score points by making contact with their opponent’s torso. Liu, who is ranked 93rd in the world, defeated some of the top-ranking foilists, including US Olympic gold medalist Lee Kiefer, at the Hong Kong event to capture the gold. Following her victory, Liu said she has set her sights on representing the US at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California.…
