Plane crashes near Washington, DC

On January 29, a passenger jet collided with a US Army helicopter over the Potomac River near Washington, DC. It was the worst airborne accident in the US in 20 years. What happened? American Eagle flight 5342 was headed from Wichita, Kansas, to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Arlington, Virginia, carrying 60 passengers and four crew members. (American Eagle is a network of smaller regional airlines that operate under the American Airlines name.) It was flying north over the Potomac and was moments from landing. A UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter from Fort Belvoir, in Virginia, was on a training flight with a three-person crew, heading south over the river.
